hello trisquel...

I was wondering if Trisquel is opposed to inviting new people to join the distro?

It seems to me that there are alarmingly few people on Trisquel, and it's forums, and chat rooms, and looking at the past posts going back all the way to 2009, it seems really odd it's so quiet here. On the surface, from the outside looking in, trisquel looks like a fully functional distro similarly to debian/ubuntu which are the most popular distro's. Other than the lack of wi-fi drivers(and the lack of free wi-fi hardware) I can't see any reason why more people would't join, but I do see there is a kind of anti-social trend going back, all the way to 2009, in the forums history.

so maybe some of the members of trisquel don't want other people to join

and maybe they dont want people discussing freedom

maybe they want non-free people

that's my thinking

Trisquel is a niche of a niche. That's really all there is to it.

User installed alternative operating systems are very rare when it comes to the general public. GNU/Linux is one of many alternative operating systems. Trisquel is one of the many variants of GNU/Linux that focuses specifically on free software.

Everyone is welcome and free to join. It's just that not many people care.

It hurts further that Trisquel is focused on being user friendly and easy to use, while the vast majority of the GNU/Linux audience prefer advanced or complex systems - or more recently, people with newer hardware that just want to play proprietary games and spend most of their free time on proprietary services such as YouTube (the worst), Discord, and Steam.

Until people care about actual computing freedom the community will stay very small.

If you think that's niche, try Hyperbola.

I do like the distro, but I admit, it is NOT for everyone.

Even though currently, its testing is stable quality.

The future?

Who bloody knows.

Maybe others who want to participate are having the same problems I had. The sign-up process for Trisquel communication channels seems odd.

I created an account on this forum a year ago but didn't figure out how to log on until today. There was some glitch such that I couldn't create a password. The password creation is separate from the account creation, which is unusual.

I tried sending a message to the email list, but it didn't post because I sent it before my confirmation email arrived. I'd already received a welcome email after subscribing, so I had no idea I'd be sent a confirmation email as well.

Actually, account management is a straightforward procedure here. We have no idea why it was causing you such troubles.

I am a bit confused by you, in one breath you insult Trisquel, in another, you talk about trying to get people to use Trisquel.

Something in this syntax doesn't add up for me.

Not meaning to be mean, but I wonder if you are bi-polar.

Or... if someone is using your account besides you.

I really find you to be an enigma open.trisquel
