when i remove compton..

trisquel runs great on my mini atom box, but it feel much snappier if i remove compton. The problem is, if I do so, each time I open an application the screen flickers on the boards of the screen and for a fraction of a second also wierd artifacts appear and it is very annoying so I reinstalled compton..
This litle netbook has an intel integrated card.
Does anybody know how to resolve this problem when compton is removed?
