Hardware recommendations for cloud server / NAS needed
Hi folks,
I want to build a small server to host some cloud services as calendar, notes, photos, documents and videos. It should also be used as a NAS for video streaming and files. Access via VPN and home network.
I have the following requirements:
open firmware coreboot or libreboot if possible
runs with trisquel or other libre distribution.
Gigabit Ethernet
Low power consumption
I have a D510MO with libreboot and also a Gigabyt GA-G41M-ESL2 with libreboot.
I am not sure if the Atom has enough power to run such a system and the Gigabyte needs a lot of Energy if run 24/7
Maybe you have some Hardware recommendations. There are also some ARM based Boards on the market, but I have no experience with ARM so far.
Thanks
Hi ollonois,
The libreCMC and Trisquel communities consider RockPro64 and NanoPi R4S to be the most free (blob-free) ARM SBCs currently available:
NanoPi R4S (ARM, RK3399)
RockPRO64 (ARM, RK3399)
Here's, for example, a guide for installing Trisquel on the TPE-R1500 — if I'm not mistaken, that's the same as NanoPi R4S.

You can also consider:
1. Odroid H4+ (SBC x86, Intel N97, coreboot+UEFI)

2. "Purism Librem Mini v2" (i7-10510U), Coreboot + Heads (PureBoot, from the factory):
https://puri.sm/products/librem-mini/
3. ""SBC"" with Libreboot: Topton X2E N150:

GnuBoot, which I really like, also has NO SBCs at all ((((
Hi sam-d16,
thanks for your reply. I think I will use the ROCKPro64 as it has a PCI Express port for a SATA controller. Unfortunately it seems that Trisquel ist not supporting this board very well so I have to use Debian.
